Dresden Wall Hanging

Finally, a finished project! Progress has been slow in the sewing studio lately, but that's okay. I'm thankful for even a little bit of sewing time. I think this project has satisfied my dresden urge for now and it will make a great addition to my cubicle decor. There were four dresdens at one time but one has gone missing. It will become a project of its own if it ever turns up.

I'm using the same dark purple background that I used on my first dresden project. It is just perfect with Kate Spain's Terrain fabric. The dresdens were pinned to the background and sewn around the edges. The circles were fused to the center and satin stitched around the edges in a pretty purple thread.

There was a strip left from each charm square. I sewed them together to make a scrappy strip set.

I needed to get at least three sections from this strip set so I cross cut 1 1/2" strips and sewed them around the edge to make a scrappy border.

The quilting is mostly straight lines. Lines radiate from the large dresden while the smaller dresdens are outlined. A swirl is free-motioned in the centers using coordinating thread.

The quilting shows up nicely on the back, too.

The binding is the same purple as the background.

Oh, this was such fun. I can't wait to get it hung in my office tomorrow morning. It will definitely brighten each working day.
